Contract Senior IT Project Manager
Rate: up to 770 per day, Inside IR35
Location: Motherwell, Scotland (5 days onsite)
Duration: 6 months (to end of 2026, extension possible)
The Role
This is a high-impact contract at the heart of a major IT integration programme. You'll be embedded within a fast-paced local IT team, helping them bring structure, momentum and clarity to a complex workload that spans legacy decommissioning, application migration, data transfer, and a site refurbishment affecting the existing IT landscape. You won't be micromanaged; this team doesn't have time for that. They need a Senior IT Project Manager who can hit the ground running, absorb a steep onboarding quickly, and immediately start driving work forward.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading integration activities - managing the outstanding application migrations and data transfer workstreams through to completion by year-end
- Decommissioning legacy systems - planning and executing the structured retirement of legacy infrastructure, including handling knowledge gaps and surprises along the way
- Supporting the local IT team - working shoulder-to-shoulder with a small, dedicated on-site team who are stretched, and helping shield them from noise and competing priorities
- Communicating upwards - producing clear, digestible updates for senior leadership and translating complex project status into business language
- Managing stakeholder resistance - particularly around data transfer, where business engagement is critical and sometimes needs a firm, diplomatic hand
- Bridging local and global teams - acting as the connector between the Motherwell site and global IT functions, navigating multiple cultures and communication styles with confidence
- Visiting all five Scottish sites in the first month to get grounded in the IT landscape across the estate (all within 45 minutes of Motherwell)
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Proven senior IT Project Manager with experience in M&A integration, data migration, or legacy decommissioning
- Background working within large or complex organisations - you understand how big organisations operate, how decisions are made, and how to get things done within that structure
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills - you can hold a room, present to leadership, and make technical complexity accessible
- Self-starter - you'll identify what needs doing and drive it, rather than waiting to be directed
- Scotland-based (or willing to commit to full-time on-site in Motherwell)
- Driving licence and willingness to travel between sites in Scotland
Highly Valued:
- Experience managing projects involving global delivery teams
- Familiarity with Office 365 environments and enterprise application landscapes
- Comfort navigating cross-cultural teams and international stakeholders
- Prince2, PMP, or Agile certification
Personality - this matters as much as the CV. The hiring team are specifically looking for someone with presence - who can walk into a leadership meeting and hold their own, voice concerns clearly, and build trust quickly with both technical and non-technical colleagues. If you're the kind of Project Manager who waits to be told what to do, this won't be the right fit. If you're the kind who reads the room, sees what's needed, and gets on with it - read on.
The Setup
- 5 days per week on-site in Motherwell
- Occasional travel to other Scottish sites
- Reporting into a global IT integration lead and working closely with the local IT Manager for Scotland
- Inside IR35
- Interviews expected w/c 8th June; target start date late June 2026
