The Opportunity

Red Sky is currently recruiting for an experienced QA Engineer / Welding Inspector to support a major industrial shutdown project in Avonmouth. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified welding inspection professional to join a well-established engineering contractor, with the potential for further long-term work on projects across Hampshire and Sussex following the successful completion of the initial shutdown.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring all welding, fabrication and quality assurance activities are completed in accordance with project specifications, client requirements and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee all welding quality activities on site.
  • Ensure compliance with quality plans, welding procedures and project specifications.
  • Manage and maintain quality documentation, inspection records and technical files.
  • Carry out welding inspections and surveillance activities in accordance with quality requirements.
  • Review and approve welding documentation, weld maps and quality records.
  • Monitor welder qualifications, performance and coding requirements.
  • Allocate and coordinate suitable coded welders alongside site supervision teams.
  • Review NDT reports and monitor weld repair activities.
  • Coordinate NDT activities, testing requirements and any post-weld heat treatment requirements.
  • Liaise with client representatives, third-party inspectors and subcontractors.
  • Manage non-conformances and implement corrective and preventative actions.
  • Conduct internal quality audits and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain welding consumable control and ensure traceability requirements are met.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 3834 Welding Management Systems and project quality procedures.
  • Produce progress reports and inspection summaries for project management teams.
  • Promote quality, safety and environmental standards across the project.

Requirements

Essential

  • CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspection Certification (Minimum).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within a welding, fabrication or inspection-related role.
  • Strong understanding of welding processes, welding procedures and inspection requirements.
  • Experience working within industrial, petrochemical, power generation or heavy engineering environments.
  • Ability to review welding documentation, NDT reports and quality records.
  • Strong knowledge of quality assurance systems and inspection processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Desirable

  • Previous shutdown or turnaround experience.
  • Experience working within ISO 3834 quality systems.
  • Internal auditing experience.
  • Knowledge of fabrication and site construction activities.

Working Environment

This role will be site-based within a major industrial shutdown environment. Candidates should be comfortable working within active construction and engineering sites where access via stairs, scaffolding and elevated work areas may be required. The role may involve day shifts, night shifts and weekend working depending on project requirements.
