Salary: 52.21 per hour umbrella / 46.45 PAYE Inclusive / 41.45 PAYE Exclusive

Service Care Solutions is recruiting on behalf of a local authority in West Sussex for a Pensions Accounting and Investment Manager to join the team on a temporary basis. The postholder will play a pivotal role in supporting the administration and governance of a Local Government Pension Scheme, overseeing investment accounting, governance, compliance, and stakeholder management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the management of pension fund accounting activities, including reconciliations, statutory accounts, contributions, invoicing, and financial controls.
  • Manage relationships with investment managers, advisers, auditors, custodians, and LGPS pooling partners to ensure effective governance and performance delivery.
  • Support Pension Committees and Boards through the preparation of reports, technical advice, and investment-related analysis to support informed decision making.
  • Drive service improvements, regulatory compliance, ESG and climate-risk reporting initiatives, and implementation of investment strategies and policies.

Candidate Criteria

  • Qualified accountant (CCAB or equivalent) with substantial senior-level experience in pensions, investments, or finance.
  • Strong understanding of Local Government Pension Schemes (LGPS), defined benefit pension arrangements, and pension fund accounting/reporting requirements.
  • Proven leadership and people management experience with the ability to motivate teams and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and deliver strategic outcomes.
