West Sussex County Council is seeking an experienced Children's Social Worker to join the Assessment & Intervention Team based in Chichester. This is an excellent opportunity to work at the forefront of safeguarding practice, completing high-quality assessments and working directly with children and families to improve outcomes and reduce risk.

Key Details

  • Location: Chichester, West Sussex
  • Team: Assessment & Intervention
  • Working Pattern: Full-time
  • Working Arrangement: Hybrid model - office-based during duty weeks with flexibility for home working. Office presence is preferred.
  • Pay Rate: 38.00 per hour (Umbrella) - capped under MoC agreement (up to 42.00 for ASW level depending on skills and competency)

Important Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years post-qualified experience in a permanent Children's Social Care role within a Local Authority in England
  • Must be a car driver and willing to travel across the western area of the county
  • Two detailed, practice-based references using the DfE template
  • Must not have worked as an agency worker in the same region within the last 3 months

Role Overview

  • Undertake high-quality assessments, care planning, and safeguarding interventions
  • Identify and manage risk and need for vulnerable children and families
  • Work to prevent family breakdown and reduce escalation into care proceedings
  • Ensure children are safeguarded in line with statutory guidance and legislation
  • Undertake direct work with children and young people to understand lived experience
  • Work effectively within a multi‑agency safeguarding network
  • Contribute to child protection processes and plans where required

Candidate Requirements

  • 2-3+ years recent frontline Child Protection experience
  • Strong assessment and analytical skills to identify risk
  • Experience completing direct work with children and families
  • Strong multi‑agency working experience
  • Ability to manage complex safeguarding and CP cases
  • Sound knowledge of legislation and statutory guidance
