Location: Bretby area, Derbyshire

Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent

Working Hours: Monday to Friday; Rotating shifts between 7:00am and 7:30pm

Job Purpose

We are recruiting a Laboratory Technician to support testing and analysis activities within a busy, quality-focused laboratory environment. This role plays a key part in assisting laboratory operations, ensuring accurate testing, compliance with procedures, and timely reporting of results. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates looking for a long-term career within laboratory testing and materials analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing, handling, and testing samples in line with laboratory procedures and standards
  • Operating and maintaining laboratory testing equipment
  • Recording test results accurately and inputting data into laboratory systems
  • Ensuring all work complies with quality, health & safety, and environmental requirements
  • Supporting senior technicians and analysts with routine laboratory tasks
  • Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe laboratory environment
  • Reporting any equipment faults, non-conformances, or safety concerns
  • Adhering to turnaround times and supporting workflow demands

Skills & Experience Required

  • Previous experience working in a laboratory or testing environment (desirable but not essential)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow detailed procedures
  • Basic understanding of health & safety within a laboratory setting
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts

Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Science, Maths or a related subject (desirable)
  • Relevant laboratory qualification or on-the-job laboratory experience is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided
