We are seeking an experienced and proactive Design Manager to join a top regional main contractor business to take responsibility for managing the design process from pre‑construction through to project delivery. You will play a key role in coordinating consultants, ensuring design compliance, and supporting successful, buildable project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the design process across all project stages
  • Lead design development from tender through construction and handover
  • Coordinate architects, engineers, and specialist consultants
  • Ensure designs are compliant with statutory requirements, building regulations, and client briefs
  • Manage design programmes, deliverables, and information flow
  • Identify and manage design risks, opportunities, and value engineering options
  • Chair and lead design meetings and workshops
  • Review drawings and specifications for buildability, cost, and programme impact
  • Work closely with commercial, planning, and site teams to ensure design intent is delivered
  • Manage design changes and ensure accurate, timely information is issued to site

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of construction methods and sequencing
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary design teams
  • Ability to interpret and challenge technical drawings and specifications
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and coordination skills
  • Strong knowledge of relevant building regulations and industry standards
  • Proficient in design management systems and document control platforms

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Relevant qualification in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or similar
