Ongoing temporary assignment, Immediate start, Flexible hourly rate, Office-based.

You will be working for a small construction organisation based just outside of Birmingham city centre. You'll join a small, fast-paced construction SME in a hands‑on, all‑round role covering finance administration on a temporary, ongoing basis. Working closely with the Director, you'll take ownership of the day‑to‑day running of the accounts while also keeping the office running smoothly, with a high level of autonomy and trust.

On a daily basis, you'll manage full bookkeeping duties using Sage 50, including processing sales and purchase ledger transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, and performing bank reconciliations. You'll be responsible for preparing and submitting VAT returns, as well as handling all aspects of CIS verification and administration. Alongside the finance responsibilities, you'll support general office operations, from managing emails and supplier queries to keeping documentation organised and up to date.

This is a varied role that will suit someone who enjoys being at the heart of a small business where a proactive approach is key. The role offers full flexibility on working hours and days, with part‑time options available for someone confident they can manage the workload effectively.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • You have proven experience in a similar all‑round bookkeeping role within an SME environment, where you've been used to taking ownership and working independently.
  • You have a strong working knowledge of Sage 50, and hands‑on experience of CIS, including verification and compliance, as this is a key part of the role.
  • You are confident preparing and submitting VAT returns without supervision.
  • You bring a self‑sufficient, organised, and proactive mindset, with the ability to manage your own workload and prioritise effectively.
  • As this is a small team, you are comfortable getting involved and supporting both finance and office administration when needed.
  • A flexible, can‑do attitude and the confidence to operate in a standalone role will be key to success in this position.
