Contract Duration: 28th June - 12th September (11-week assignment)
Shift Pattern: Wednesday to Saturday
Note: An optional 5th shift on Sunday or Monday will be offered as peak volumes increase.
Start Times: 04:00 - 06:00 (8 hours guaranteed per shift)
Pay Rates:
- Monday to Friday (03:00 - 19:00): £19.06 per hour
- Saturday (03:00 - 19:00): £21.95 per hour
Role Overview
We are seeking adaptable, professional Class 1 (LGV C E) Drivers for an 11-week summer peak contract based out of Biggleswade. Operating a modern fleet of well-maintained vehicles, you will be delivering fresh, frozen, and ambient products to local Co‑op stores. This role requires a high level of driving precision and versatility. Drivers must be comfortable stepping between Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles depending on daily operational needs. Due to the urban and high‑street locations of some stores, you must also be confident and skilled at parking and offloading on public roads. Typical shifts last between 8 to 13 hours, offering excellent earning potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate both Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles as required by the daily schedule.
- Safely operate a Class 1 vehicle, delivering temperature‑controlled and ambient stock to local Co‑op stores.
- Complete 3 to 6 drops per shift (depending on the assigned route).
- Maintain flexibility to complete a second run (returning to the depot to reload) within your shift if required.
- Conduct thorough pre‑ and post‑journey vehicle defect checks, reporting any issues promptly.
- Ensure all load security and temperature boundary checks are completed before departure.
- Maintain accurate digital tachograph records and strictly adhere to EU Drivers' Hours regulations.
Candidate Requirements
Experience: Minimum of 12 months of experience driving Class 1 vehicles in the UK.
Licence & Qualifications:
- Valid UK Cat C E (Class 1) driving licence.
- Valid Driver CPC (Driver Qualification Card).
- Valid Digital Tachograph card.
Skills & Abilities
- Confident precision driving, particularly with on‑road deliveries and tight‑access store locations.
- Willingness and flexibility to drive Class 2 vehicles when required.
- Endorsements: Maximum of 6 minor penalty points (No DR, DD, IN, or CD endorsements for insurance purposes).
