Sewell Wallis are partnering exclusively with a growing business based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, which is looking to recruit an Assistant Management Accountant to their team. This role reports directly to the Financial Controller, who will be a brilliant mentor for a candidate who has ambitions to progress within a business.

In terms of exposure, this role is heavily month-end focused and, with support and training, will provide the successful candidate the opportunity to look after their own set of Management Accounts. This role would suit a candidate wanting to take a step up, who has a desire to learn and expand their base of knowledge and gain exposure to wider finance functions. What will you be doing?

  • Management accounts production and support alongside the Management Accountant
  • Liaising with site teams and operational managers to gather information relevant to the reporting function
  • Involvement in Monthly meetings with operational leaders to provide them with figures and details of how their work areas are performing against budgeted expectations
  • Support with the delivery of high-quality regular reporting, analysis and insights to business, forecasts, budgets and business plans with no surprises
  • Reconciliation of Balance Sheet accounts
  • Prepare Cost and Project Analysis alongside project teams to understand Operational performance
  • Posting of centrally controlled costs (i.e., Fuel, EE, Recharges, Travel)
  • Raising of Sales Invoices in a timely manner
  • Support the team in providing data analysis required through the annual statutory audit
  • Other ad-hoc duties specified by the Financial Controller
  • Helping to drive continuous improvement through system processes and management information across the finance function
  • Maintaining Group reporting deadlines and ensuring that intra-group accounting dates are met

What skills do we need?

  • Previous experience within a similar role
  • Working towards a recognised accounting qualification (AAT or equivalent)
  • Strong IT knowledge, especially in Excel and accounting systems
  • Attention to detail
  • Financial awareness
  • The ability to build relationships through effective communication
  • A quick learner with the ability to retain and implement information and deliver the required outputs
