TeacherActive is currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting in the Preston area on a temporary to permanent basis, with an immediate start available. This role is based within a small, supportive independent specialist school that provides education for children and young people who have autism and additional social, emotional, and behavioural needs. The school prides itself on creating a structured, nurturing, and therapeutic environment where pupils are supported to develop confidence, independence, and essential life skills. Classes are intentionally small with high staff-to-student ratios, allowing for personalised support and strong relationships between staff and pupils.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pupils both academically and socially, helping them to engage with learning and regulate behaviour in a positive and consistent way.
The Role
- Supporting pupils with Autism and additional needs in both classroom and pastoral settings
- Assisting the teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities
- Supporting pupils with challenging behaviour using calm and consistent strategies
- Providing personal care, which is an essential part of the role
- Encouraging independence, communication, and emotional regulation
- Working closely with teachers and support staff to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment

- Experience supporting children or young people with Autism (desirable)
- Experience managing or supporting challenging behaviour (desirable)
- A patient, resilient, and compassionate approach
