An exciting opportunity has become available for an Associate Geotechnical Engineer to join a well-established ground engineering consultancy in Edinburgh. This role offers the chance to play a key part in a growing geotechnical team delivering projects across the quarrying, infrastructure, and development sectors throughout the UK. The company is looking for an experienced engineer with a strong technical background in geotechnics and quarry-related projects who is eager to progress into senior leadership. A clear pathway to Associate Director and Director level is available, alongside full chartership support and mentoring.

The Role

  • You will lead and manage a range of geotechnical projects, with a particular focus on quarry environments, slope stability, and earthworks.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and delivering geotechnical projects across quarry and infrastructure sites
  • Conducting slope stability and geotechnical risk assessments
  • Designing and overseeing ground investigations
  • Producing factual and interpretative geotechnical reports
  • Providing technical advice to clients and project teams
  • Mentoring junior engineers and supporting team growth
  • Supporting business development and maintaining client relationships
  • Assisting with quarry restoration and long-term land stability projects

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Consultancy experience within geotechnical engineering or quarry-related projects
  • Strong understanding of slope stability, ground investigation, and geotechnical design
  • Experience managing projects and liaising directly with clients
  • Chartered status or working towards Chartership (ICE/GeolSoc equivalent)
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
