Our client, a UK headquartered pharmaceutical CRO are sourcing an Analytical Team Leader based in the Midlands, to lead their analytical function within the pharmaceutical sector. This senior role involves providing scientific and team leadership, managing a diverse portfolio of projects involving small molecules and emerging modalities.

The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day project delivery, ensure high-quality analytical outputs, support method development, and troubleshoot technical issues. Additionally, they will mentor and develop team members, promote effective processes, and drive continuous improvement to enhance team performance and operational efficiency.

As an Analytical Team Leader, you will lead the day-to-day delivery of analytical work across a portfolio of projects, ensuring outputs are consistently high quality, on time, and aligned to customer and business expectations. You will plan and coordinate team activities, effectively managing workloads and resources in a dynamic, multi-project environment.

Staying close to the science, you will provide hands-on technical oversight, supporting method development, troubleshooting, and ensuring analytical data is robust, reliable, and fit for purpose. Alongside delivery, you will play a key role in building a high performing, engaged team, providing coaching, mentoring, and clear direction to support individual and team success.

You will champion effective processes, documentation, and compliance standards, ensuring the team operates efficiently and is always audit-ready. Skills and Experience:

  • PhD or equivalent experience in Chemistry with a proven track record in CRO, pharmaceutical or biotech environments
  • Broad technical knowledge of analytical techniques such as UPLC-MS, SFC, NMR, GC-MS
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and motivating scientific teams
  • Excellent organisational abilities, capable of managing multiple projects and priorities
  • Effective communicator, confident in collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Proactive with a focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence
