We have an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Podiatrist in Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust to join the Podiatry Department at Amersham Hospital. In this role, you will be responsible for providing professional and clinical leadership in the strategic development, planning, and operational delivery of podiatry wound care services across both primary and secondary care settings in Buckinghamshire. You will act as a key source of expertise in wound care, managing the holistic assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with complex wound care conditions. You will also be responsible for delivering evidence-based podiatry interventions and clinical advice aimed at reducing the need for acute interventions, while supporting patients to maintain mobility, independence, and overall wellbeing.

Main duties of the job:

  • Working collaboratively with the Head of Service, Podiatry Leads, and a wider team of healthcare professionals to ensure a consistent and high-quality podiatry service is delivered across the county.
  • Supporting the development of effective treatment planning, including off-loading strategies and preventative risk management for high-risk patients and those requiring specialised wound care.
  • Contributing as a proactive member of the Podiatry Service, supporting service objectives and ensuring all practices align with departmental standards as well as organisational and Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) policies and professional requirements.

Job Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Independently triaging referrals and determining appropriate care pathways, ensuring patients are directed to the most suitable services in a timely manner while coordinating onward referrals when specialist input or additional investigations are required.
  • Undertaking comprehensive clinical assessments and applying advanced analytical skills to interpret complex clinical information, including imaging and pathology reports, in order to formulate accurate diagnoses, prognoses, and tailored management plans.
  • Managing and organising a designated caseload of patients, prioritising clinical needs effectively while ensuring efficient use of time and resources to deliver safe and timely care.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records and clinical documentation, ensuring all consultations, treatments, and outcomes are clearly recorded in line with legal, organisational, and professional standards.
  • Providing education, guidance, and specialist advice to patients, relatives, carers, and healthcare professionals, supporting understanding of foot health management and encouraging engagement in treatment and rehabilitation plans.
  • Contributing to service improvement and professional development activities, including participating in audits, training programmes, and clinical supervision while supporting knowledge sharing and the development of best practice within the podiatry service.

Person Specifications & Qualifications:

  • HCPC registered Podiatrist.
  • Degree in Podiatry or equivalent.
  • Experience in advanced podiatry practice, including complex wound care.
  • Able to work independently and manage high-risk patients.
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD and participation in audit/service improvement.
  • Car driver preferred; travel across the county will be required.
