The Opportunity

We are seeking a multi‑skilled, mechanical‑biased Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join the asset maintenance team. This role is focused on ensuring the reliability and safety of a live process plant. It is an ideal position for an experienced industrial mechanic who thrives on detailed fault‑finding, preventive maintenance, and working on high‑spec rotating and static equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Maintenance: Carry out routine preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on complex mechanical systems, including high‑pressure pumps, compressors, valves, and actuators.
  • Fault Diagnosis: Troubleshoot and repair mechanical plant failures, utilizing root cause principles to optimize asset runtime and integrity.
  • Rigorous Safety Compliance: Execute all tasks in accordance with stringent top‑tier industrial safety standards, hazardous area (ATEX) regulations, and formal Permit-to-Work systems.
  • Contractor Support: Work collaboratively with external specialist engineering contractors during site outages and major plant overhauls.
  • Emergency Response: Participate in a structured on‑call rota to deliver rapid emergency breakdown response, protecting site operations and national supply continuity.

What We’re Looking For

  • Technical Qualifications: NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or an engineering apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering / Maintenance.
  • Industry Background: Proven track record working on live process plant operations‑ideally Onshore Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Chemical processing, Power Generation, or heavy utility infrastructure.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of static and rotating equipment, laser alignment, mechanical seals, and pipework integrity.
  • Logistics: Due to the emergency call‑out response requirements, you must live within a 1‑hour travelling distance of the Hampshire facility and hold a full UK driving licence.

  • Premium Call‑Out Structure: Lucrative standby and call‑out terms: Weekdays: Paid at 5 hours base rate standby, plus a minimum of 5 hours at 1.5x base rate per call‑out. Weekends & Bank Holidays: Minimum of 5 hours at 2.0x base rate per call‑out.
  • Bonus: Short‑Term Incentive Plan (STIP) with a potential of up to 15% of salary based on performance targets.
