We are seeking a reliable, responsible and trustworthy Full-Time Caretaker to oversee the daily upkeep, cleanliness, and general maintenance of a small residential building comprising of 5 apartments. The caretaker will be the first point of contact for deliveries, visitors and engineers, whilst ensuring that the building remains safe, clean, and in good working condition. Previous candidate was in the position for more than 32 years so the opportunity for this fantastic role doesn\’t come up very often.
Work Conditions
- Full-time position (35/40 hours a week; flexibility may be required).
- On-site presence in the building is expected daily and on Saturday mornings.
- Occasional evening or weekend availability may be needed for urgent issues.
Requirements
- Prior experience as a caretaker or in general maintenance is preferred.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Physical ability to perform cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Reliability and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Flexibility to work out of hours in case of emergencies.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning & Maintenance
- Perform daily cleaning of common areas (entrances, stairwells, hallways, elevators, etc.).
- Take care of waste collection and recycling.
- Carry out minor repairs (light bulbs, fixtures, small plumbing/electrical fixes).
- Monitor heating, ventilation, and other building systems.
- Report and coordinate with the managing agent for larger repairs or faults.
Building & Grounds
- Maintain outdoor areas (sweeping, light gardening, clearing snow/ice in winter).
- Ensure entrances, walkways, and shared spaces are safe and tidy.
Tenant Support
- Serve as the first contact point for residents regarding building-related issues.
- Assist with move-ins and move-outs (providing access, inspecting spaces, etc.).
Security
- Monitor access to the building.
- Ensure doors, gates, and common spaces are secured.
Administrative
- Keep logs of maintenance tasks and repair needs.
- Report to property owner/management regularly.
