Position Information

We’re looking for a Barista / Front of House team member to join the team at Sage & Poppy.

If you’re passionate about great coffee, good food and fine wine, take pride in delivering exceptional service, and know how to make every customer feel genuinely welcome, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for someone who is friendly, attentive and enthusiastic, with a genuine passion for hospitality and creating a warm, welcoming experience for our guests.

What you’ll be doing

  • Making and serving coffee, alcoholic and other drinks
  • Welcoming and serving customers
  • Helping with food preparation and general café tasks
  • Keeping the café clean, organised and looking its best
  • Supporting young people taking part in work placements
  • Working closely with the team to help keep the café running smoothly

We’re looking for someone who is friendly, reliable, hardworking and enjoys working with people. As our evening service develops, there may be opportunities for your role and working hours to grow and change with the café.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about coffee, wine and great hospitality, with a warm and confident approach to customers.

  • Is confident and professional when dealing with customers and resolving any issues
  • Enjoys getting to know our regulars, having a chat and creating a welcoming atmosphere
  • Is self‑motivated, organised and has a strong eye for detail
  • Has a positive, can‑do attitude and takes pride in their work
  • Is reliable, punctual and supportive of the wider team
  • Can work well as part of a team while also being confident working independently
  • Has at least 1 year of specialty coffee experience
  • Has confident espresso skills and can consistently texture milk well
  • Has basic latte art skills — appreciated, but definitely not a deal‑breaker
  • Is comfortable with dialling in, grinder care and daily machine cleaning
  • Is happy to work across all areas of the café, including coffee, till, prep, cleaning and stock
  • Brings a warm, reliable and team‑first attitude
  • Enjoys working with regular customers, a good pace and a little personality on shift

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys hospitality and wants to be part of a friendly, welcoming team.

What We’re About

Sage & Poppy is a growing specialty coffee shop with high standards, lovely regulars and a team that takes pride in doing things properly. We care deeply about quality, but we’re not overly formal about it. For us, it’s about great coffee, genuine service, clean systems and a team that looks after each other.

But Sage & Poppy is about more than coffee.

Every cup you serve helps create opportunities and change lives. We exist to support the trainingand employment of unemployed young people and adults, helping them build real‑world skills, confidence and a pathway towards a brighter future through Orange Bow CIC. All proceeds from the coffee shop are reinvested directly into community programmes that uplift and empower people. We believe in creating opportunities, not just profits. So when you work with us, you’re not simply serving great coffee — you’re helping fuel positive change in our community, one cup at a time.

It’s a great opportunity to join a purpose‑driven business that’s growing, making a difference and truly going places.
