Climpson & Sons is a B Corp Certified, independent specialty coffee business. We source, roast, and craft our coffees from farm to cup, delivering the best specialty coffee experience to our customers. After nearly 20 years at our flagship Broadway Market café in East London, we’re excited to open our second sit‑down café site in Deal this April. Led by owner Ian, who has lived in Deal for over 10 years, we aim to create a welcoming, vibrant space for locals and visitors alike—serving excellent coffee, thoughtful food, and relaxed hospitality from morning through evening, seven days a week. Our Deal café is designed as a day‑to‑evening venue: a bright, welcoming spot for early morning coffee and breakfast, a relaxed space for daytime work or catch‑ups, and a warm, lively destination for evening drinks, snacks, and social gatherings.
Role Purpose
As a Café/Bar Assistant, you’ll be at the heart of the customer experience, supporting the café and bar team in delivering excellent service across both daytime and evening operations. You’ll help prepare drinks and food, maintain a welcoming environment, and assist the team with day‑to‑day operations while learning and developing your skills in coffee, bar service, and hospitality.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve coffee, drinks, and food to our customers with a friendly, professional attitude.
- Engage with guests to ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- Support the team in responding to customer questions or requests.
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness and order in front‑of‑house areas.
Operations & Support
- Help with food and drink preparation, following menu specifications and quality standards.
- Support stock management, including restocking, rotation, and tidying storage areas.
- Assist with cash handling, point‑of‑sale operations, and end‑of‑shift reporting.
- Ensure smooth transitions between breakfast, lunch, and evening service under supervision.
Teamwork & Development
- Work closely with Café/Bar Supervisors and colleagues to deliver excellent service.
- Participate in training on coffee, bar service, food safety, and hospitality standards.
- Support team members across day and evening shifts, maintaining flexibility and a positive attitude.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all hygiene, health, and safety procedures.
- Report any hazards, maintenance issues, or operational problems promptly.
- Be aware of fire, evacuation, and emergency procedures.
Working Pattern
Café operates seven days a week, including weekend, holiday, and evening shifts. Flexibility and adaptability are key to supporting both daytime and evening operations.

- Previous café, bar, or hospitality experience is desirable but not essential.
- Friendly, approachable, and customer‑focused attitude.
- Willingness to learn and develop coffee, bar, and hospitality skills.

The Details
Full‑time or part‑time options available (8–37.5–45 hours per week). Based at our new café in Deal, Kent. 7‑day operation with weekends and evening work; peak periods include holiday weekends and summer holidays.
