About Us: Climpson & Sons is a B Corp Certified, independent specialty coffee business. We source, roast, and craft our coffees from farm to cup, delivering the best specialty coffee experience to our customers. After nearly 20 years at our flagship Broadway Market café in East London, we’re excited to open our second sit‑down café site in Deal this April. Led by owner Ian, who has lived in Deal for over 10 years, we aim to create a welcoming, vibrant space for locals and visitors alike—serving excellent coffee, thoughtful food, and relaxed hospitality from morning through evening, seven days a week.
Our Deal café is designed as a day‑to‑evening venue: a bright, welcoming spot for early morning coffee and breakfast, a relaxed space for daytime work or catch‑ups, and a warm, lively destination for evening drinks, snacks, and social gatherings.
Role Purpose: You’ll supervise a motivated team, ensure excellent service standards across both daytime and evening operations, and help maintain the high‑quality customer experience that defines our brand. This role combines leadership, operational oversight, and hands‑on service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Operations & Performance: Supervise daily café and bar operations across morning, daytime, and evening service. Assist the Café Manager in monitoring sales, setting improvement targets, and delivering revenue growth strategies. Support seamless transitions between breakfast, lunch, and evening menus with the Food Manager/Chef. Manage stock, cash handling, and shift‑level reporting. Ensure operational systems support high‑quality service and efficiency.
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead and motivate team members during shifts, ensuring clear task allocation and high performance. Support training and coaching of staff in coffee, food service, evening drinks, brand standards, and health & safety. Help maintain team morale, accountability, and a positive workplace culture. Provide guidance on shift handovers, briefings, and supervision of junior staff.
- Customer Experience & Community: Deliver and model exceptional service across all dayparts. Engage with guests to maintain a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. Support the Café Manager in responding to customer feedback and improving the guest experience. Promote the café’s day‑to‑evening offerings and support local community engagement.
- Health, Safety & Compliance: Ensure staff adhere to hygiene, health, and safety procedures. Report any operational or safety issues promptly. Be aware of emergency procedures, including fire, evacuation, and first aid protocols.
- Culture & Change: Encourage a positive, collaborative, and proactive team environment. Support continuous improvement initiatives in service delivery and café operations. Act as a role model for brand values and service standards.
Working Pattern: Café operates seven days a week. Some weekend, bank holiday, and evening shifts are required, shared across the team. Flexibility and adaptability are essential to support both daytime and evening operations.
What We’re Looking For: Experience in a café, bar, or hospitality supervisory role, ideally with specialty coffee knowledge. Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate teams across multiple dayparts. Hands‑on approach with excellent customer service skills. Commercially aware, able to support sales growth and operational efficiency. Flexible, proactive, and solution‑oriented, thriving in a start‑up environment.
The Details: Full time: 37.5–45 hours per week. Based at our new café in Deal, Kent. 7-day operation with weekends and evening work; peak periods include holiday weekends and summer holidays.
Perks & Benefits: Competitive salary depending on experience. All‑you‑can‑drink specialty coffee + a bag of beans weekly. Discounts at Climpson’s Café & Brat restaurant. Free yoga classes, staff BBQs, and social events. Opportunities to attend and cover industry events. Collaborative, supportive team environment. Contribution to an ambitious, values‑led B Corp company with a focus on sustainability. Coffee training, additional training opportunities, and volunteer time per year. 4 paid sick days annually.
