Unitech Engineering Ltd is a leading manufacturer of quality stainless steel equipment for food and other hygiene conscious industries. Based in Burntwood, Staffordshire, we are looking for a Group Health and Safety Manager to join our team.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director (UWSL) and General Manager (UML) and working closely with Directors and General Managers of the Unitech Group, you will be responsible for developing and updating all Health, Safety, and assisting with Quality and Environmental strategy policies for all group business in line with legal compliance and best practice.
Main duties will include:
- Working in conjunction with Group and independent quality accreditation standards, responsible for the daily upkeep of all H&S, and assisting with Quality and Environmental records.
- Ensuring that all Company policies, procedures and systems of work are implemented and followed in line with any standards implemented.
- Assisting with the revision and implementation of Company policies, procedures, documents, and training guides.
- Covering the Group sites throughout the UK, with a permanent base in Burntwood at our head office, while travelling to different sites regularly.
- Delivering Health and Safety training at any location required to fulfil the business needs and requirements.
- Reporting all major incidents and accidents that may involve an intervention by the HSE to the Board of Directors and assisting with any investigations and remedial action required.
- Reporting Health & Safety, and Quality and Environmental reports to the Board of Directors as required on a timely basis.
- Managing the occupational health surveillance activities in line with Company standards.
- Supporting the installation teams with risk and method statements and attending sites to undertake audits and represent the Company at Customer management meetings.
- Carrying out inductions for all new starters at the Burntwood site.
- Attending management meetings as and when required.
- In conjunction with the Company Quality Consultant, managing the development and deployment of the ISO9001, QMS and fulfilling the role of divisional quality representative.
- Liaising with accrediting bodies in relation to Quality and Health and Safety Audit.
- Monitoring the Training & Development system.
- Working closely with the Group HR Manager on any employee matters that involve H & S or people management.
- Working closely with the Material and Stores Manager with site facilities management.
- Assisting with any plant & maintenance issues involving H&S.
- Any other duties as required and commensurate with your skill set and experience.
Skills & Experience Required:
- NEBOSH Diploma in Health & Safety or equivalent; NEBOSH General or Construction Health and Safety Certificate.
- CITB licence SMSTS holder would be a distinct advantage.
- Must be IT literate with Microsoft office packages including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Have a suitable training qualification i.e., PTLLS.
- Desired previous health & safety experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Fire Risk Assessor training recognised by a Risk Assessment qualification a distinct advantage.
- Preferred requirements Environmental IMEA Qualification minimum foundation level.
- Must have an understanding of Quality Audit and relevant experience of auditing to ISO standards.
- Experience of dealing with accreditation bodies such as Achilles, SafeContractor and CHAS etc. would be a distinct advantage.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all stakeholders of the business at various levels.
- Must be a team player whilst having the ability to work on your own.
- Must be flexible as some travel and potential overnight stays may be required.
- Must have a driving licence.
- Must be extremely organised.
