Unite Students` fantastic Sustainability team are looking for an experienced Sustainability Manager to join us in Bristol.
The Sustainability Manager reports into the Head of Sustainability, and plays a central role in achieving our overall sustainability ambition. The purpose of the role is to lead on educating, engaging, encouraging and empowering key stakeholders to help Unite Students fulfil our sustainability ambition.
This role is about maximising the impact the Sustainability Team can make by inspiring and empowering others to play their part, and making sustainability business as usual for our employees, residents and suppliers!
What You`ll Be Doing
- Helping to ensure our sustainability strategy remains focused on the most materially significant issues, includes clear and credible ambitions and targets, and is understood and supported across the business.
- Leading and coordinating our approach to enabling and encouraging our residents to adopt lasting responsible living habits.
- Leading and coordinating our approach to educating and empowering our employees play their part in achieving our sustainability ambitions.
- Leading and coordinating our approach to engaging our suppliers to improve their environmental and social performance.
- Providing expertise and support across the team and business on relevant environmental sustainability topics.
- Playing a key role in sustainability related reporting and disclosure in line with regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations.
- Helping to maintain and improve sustainability related governance, policies and procedures across the business.
- Work closely with colleagues in the Sustainability Team as required on broad sustainability topics, and line manage the Sustainability Coordinator who works across the team supporting key activity.
What We`re Looking for in You
- Passionate about sustainability and keen to make a real difference, with a strong background in corporate sustainability. Experience planning and implementing sustainability programmes across large multi-site businesses, inspiring others, and working with different functions and teams to create a real and measurable impact.
- Familiarity with sustainability and ESG regulation and voluntary frameworks and schemes covering commitments, reporting and disclosure.
- Great communication, people and influencing skills, able to work collaboratively and supportively across different functions and sites to drive up engagement and participation.
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate and deliver behavioural change and engagement activity that drives environmental and social sustainability.
- Able to organise workload, manage competing priorities and focusing on delivery while also dealing with evolving requirements and business change.
- Preferable a degree level or higher qualification in a relevant sustainability related subject, and membership of a relevant professional body (ICRS, IEMA, etc).
- Bristol based and able to work at least 3 days either in our Bristol office or on one of our sites.
