An established and highly respected infrastructure contractor is seeking an experienced General Foreman to support the delivery of a growing portfolio of highways and civil engineering projects across the North East. Working within a long-term framework environment for National Highways, you will play a key role in the safe and efficient delivery of maintenance, renewal and improvement schemes across the Strategic Road Network. With an increasing workload and a strong pipeline of secured work, this represents an excellent opportunity to join a business with significant long-term investment in the region.
Projects are typically delivered on live highways and major A-road networks and can range from small improvement works through to complex structural and civil engineering schemes. Framework activities commonly include structural repairs, drainage improvements, signage and technology upgrades, street lighting and electrical works, barriers, pavement improvements, traffic management and other highways infrastructure enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day site operations and supervise site teams.
- Coordinate subcontractors, plant, labour and materials.
- Ensure works are delivered safely, on programme and to specification.
- Conduct site briefings, toolbox talks and daily coordination meetings.
- Monitor productivity, quality and programme performance.
- Support Site Managers and Project Managers with project delivery.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate site records and progress reporting.
- Assist with permits, temporary works and traffic management interfaces.
- Promote a positive safety culture across all site activities.

- Bridge and structural repair schemes.
- Bridge strengthening and refurbishment works.
- Concrete repair and waterproofing packages.
- Highway drainage improvements and renewals.
- Signage, gantry and technology installations.
- Street lighting and electrical infrastructure works.
- Road restraint systems and safety barrier installations.
- Pavement and carriageway improvement schemes.
- Traffic management and associated highway infrastructure works.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a General Foreman, Foreman or Supervisor within highways or civil engineering.
- Experience delivering National Highways, local authority highways or major infrastructure projects.
- Strong leadership and subcontractor management skills.
- Ability to work effectively within live highway environments.
- Good understanding of health, safety and quality requirements.
- Full UK driving licence.
- SMSTS or SSSTS.
- CSCS Card.
- First Aid qualification desirable.
