We are recruiting for an experienced Freelance Site Manager to take the lead on the delivery of a Β£5m commercial development in Didcot, working for a well-established main contractor with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality commercial and industrial projects.

This is a Number One Site Manager position, reporting directly to a visiting Contracts Manager, with full responsibility for the day-to-day management of the project from enabling works through to shell & core construction, with the potential for minor fit-out works towards project completion.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Site Manager who enjoys taking ownership of a project and driving it through every stage of the build programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the project on a day-to-day basis as the Number One Site Manager.
  • Oversee the successful delivery of a Β£5m commercial scheme from enabling works through to shell & core completion.
  • Coordinate all site activities, ensuring the programme is achieved safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
  • Manage and coordinate subcontractors across all phases of the build.
  • Lead site health & safety, ensuring full compliance with company procedures and current legislation.
  • Produce short-term programmes and look-ahead plans to maintain project momentum.
  • Liaise with the visiting Contracts Manager, client representatives, consultants and design team.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential issues and implement solutions to maintain programme.
  • Ensure quality inspections, snagging and handover processes are completed to a high standard.
  • Maintain accurate site records, including diaries, inspections, permits and progress reports.
  • Manage site logistics, labour, plant and material requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Foster a positive site culture focused on safety, quality and productivity.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Site Manager working for a main contractor on commercial or industrial construction projects.
  • Experience managing projects from groundworks and enabling works through to shell & core completion.
  • Previous experience operating as the Number One Site Manager with responsibility for the day-to-day running of site.
  • Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, site logistics and programme management.
  • Excellent leadership and subcontractor management skills.
  • SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid are essential.
  • Temporary Works Coordinator and/or Appointed Person qualifications would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication, planning and organisational skills.
