Our Capital Projects team have an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager to join us at our Bristol office. Capital Projects are key to supporting the growth, sustainability, and operational needs of Unite Students by investing in the physical infrastructure and facilities of the estate. The delivery of the Capital Investment Plan is intended to create, upgrade, and maintain assets with long-term value. The purpose of a Capital Projects Team is to manage and oversee the planning, execution, and completion of the Capital Projects Plan across the Estate. The Capital Projects Team will ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and provide assurance that all required quality, compliance and regulatory standards are met. The purpose of this role is to evaluate and manage risks and lead the design development process on projects from the identification of risk and due diligence, developing detailed scope, gaining planning permission, tendering and appointment of contractor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver complex projects across the portfolio; including but not limited to, Refurbishments, Asset enhancements, External facade, Safety focused & ESG initiatives
  • Project Management ownership of RIBA stage 2 - 7, whilst supporting colleagues in earlier stages when needed
  • Management of projects in live environments whilst not compromising on H&S, quality, time and cost
  • Develop and define project scopes from a brief which considers legislation, regulation and ensure compliance with planning conditions and the Building Safety Act
  • Appoint and lead external consultant teams to maximise efficiency for projects
  • Multifunctional collaboration to ensure that design is correct and aligned
  • Strategic technical input to ensure efficiency in design and delivery
  • Strategic input on risks to ensure that these have been considered within the design, programme, and costing of the project
  • Ensure Planning applications are submitted and tracked
  • Ensure BSR Gateway applications are submitted and tracked
  • Complete accurate reporting across the business on all projects
  • Deliver regular communication, updates, and liaison with Key stakeholders
  • Work closely with Procurement and Commercial to ensure tenders are successfully achieved, including supporting Commercial with any contractual requirements

  • Developing standard documents and procedures for primary external consultants required to deliver the pipeline
  • Attending and be actively involved in team meetings, contributing to Business Plans and commercial risks

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Project Management qualification or hold other similar relevant qualification
  • Extensive experience of delivering major projects from inception to final sign off
  • Experienced in the management of procurement and contract documentation
  • A proven track record of management of external consultant teams
  • Strong computer literacy with the ability to use Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work at pace whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Possesses a positive attitude, with the ability to adapt swiftly and a willingness to undertake challenging tasks to ensure customer/ stakeholder satisfaction
  • Self-motivated and possessing the ability to work on own initiative and as within a team
  • Evidence of working in a fast paced, high change environment and able to manage multiple demands effectively
  • Understand the BSA Duty Holder role(s), PM role, and Golden Thread requirements
  • A quick learner, demonstrates a capability and willingness to acquire and apply new skills and learning
  • Well-developed communication and influencing skills, able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to build relationships and influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to create and maintain relationships across wide geographical area
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Experienced in all forms for construction project management
  • Experience in major refurbishment projects
  • Experience in Major Cladding Projects
  • A knowledge of the student accommodation market
  • Detailed understanding and knowledge of planning policies and the Building Safety Act
