An incredibly fast growing, multi £bn revenue organisation are currently looking to appoint a key hire for the business – Head of Finance (Projects). You will report into an amazing CFO/FD who is very focused on career development and culture. There are numerous examples of people progressing to Finance Director very quickly.
This role will manage a portfolio of 10+ projects ranging from £20m to £100m+ and will manage project finance teams as well as being the co‑pilot to the Commercial Directors and Managing Director.
Some of the duties and responsibilities for the Head of Finance – Projects:
- Lead financial strategy, planning, budgeting, and forecasting across the project portfolio.
- Drive improvements in financial performance, including recovery plans where results are below expectations.
- Provide strategic financial insight to support business growth, investment decisions, bids, and tenders.
- Partner closely with operational and commercial leaders to influence decision‑making and improve margins.
- Lead and develop a high‑performing finance team, ensuring clear objectives, capability building, and succession planning.
- Ensure robust financial reporting, governance, and compliance, including management accounts, audits, and revenue recognition.
- Own divisional financial inputs into 5‑year business plans, business cases, and investment appraisals.
- Embed strong construction finance disciplines, delivering credible forecasts, cost control, and working capital optimisation.
Skills, background and experience of the successful Head of Finance – Projects:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with significant post-qualification experience.
- Proven experience operating in complex, contract‑led environments, including NEC or similar forms of contract.
- Proven track record in a senior finance leadership role within a business‑facing environment.
- Strong understanding of contract accounting, commercial finance, and operational performance.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
- Experience in construction, infrastructure, or energy is strongly preferred, particularly in contract‑led environments with complex delivery and risk profiles.
