About Us
We’re a fast growing AI startup on a mission to help midmarket businesses transform how work gets done. We’ve built a factory for custom operations agents. The factory builds Virtual Agents: software workers with AI reasoning that complete complex workflows end-to-end, directly in customer tools. There’s no tech integration, process change or upfront cost. Onboarding is white-glove, takes a matter of days, and customers pay only for delivered value. This makes Virtual Agents the lowest risk way to automate complex manual work. And it makes Unitary the first company delivering Fortune 500-grade AI deployment with the unit economics of software - enabling us to reach the midmarket at scale. Today we’re focused on commercial insurance, marketplaces and primary healthcare. But the potential for Virtual Agents goes far beyond. We closed $15M Series A funding in 2024, and we’re backed by some leading names in AI (Plural and Creandum). We’re working with world-class clients such as Substack, Trustpilot, Depop, Sony Interactive Entertainment and many more. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-funded startup at a crucial stage of growth, and to play a significant part in turning frontier AI technology into real world value.
The Role
As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll work directly with customers to understand their challenges and turn them into scalable technical solutions. This is a highly cross-functional role. You'll move between software engineering, infrastructure, integrations, data workflows and AI systems, helping customers unlock value from our platform while shaping the future of our product. You'll be expected to become a domain expert in customer problems, work closely with internal engineering teams, and use modern AI-powered development tools to move quickly and effectively. This role is ideal for engineers early in their careers who are excited by ambiguity, learn fast and enjoy solving problems across multiple technical disciplines.

- Use AI-assisted and agentic development tools as part of your daily workflow
- Identify opportunities to improve internal tooling, automation and developer experience
- Help shape product direction through customer feedback and implementation learnings
What We're Looking For
We're more interested in how you think than how many years you've worked. You may be a strong fit if you:
- Have 1–3 years of software engineering experience, or can demonstrate equivalent capability through projects, internships or startup experience
- Are a strong generalist who enjoys learning new technologies and domains
- Have experience building software in production environments
- Communicate clearly and enjoy working closely with users and customers
- Take ownership of problems and see them through to completion
- Are comfortable navigating ambiguity and changing priorities

- Are excited about working across software, infrastructure, data and AI systems
Nice to Have
- Experience at a startup or fast-moving environment
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP or Azure)
- Experience building APIs, integrations or internal tooling
- Familiarity with machine learning systems or data platforms
- Experience working directly with customers or stakeholders
