Transport Operator (Nights) to join our growing team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a transport professional with container haulage experience who thrives under pressure and is passionate about delivering exceptional service to customers while ensuring compliance, efficiency, and operational excellence.

What you'll be doing

  • Plan and manage the daily operation of container trucks efficiently and effectively.
  • Monitor transport operations and respond to issues such as traffic delays, vehicle breakdowns, accidents, and other service disruptions.
  • Ensure full compliance with Operator's Licence requirements, Drivers' Hours Regulations, and Working Time Directive legislation.
  • Manage and support employed drivers, agency drivers, and subcontractors.
  • Work closely with the Fleet Department to ensure all vehicle defects are actioned immediately and that VOR vehicles remain off the road until repairs are completed.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring service expectations are consistently achieved.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiencies, and service delivery.
  • Maintain excellent communication with drivers, customers, and internal stakeholders throughout the shift.
  • Support the wider transport operation and undertake additional duties as reasonably required.

What you'll bring

  • Experienced within transport operations, ideally in container haulage.
  • Confident using TOPS or similar transport management systems.
  • Knowledgeable in Drivers' Hours Regulations, Operator Licensing, and the Working Time Directive.
  • Highly organised with excellent geographical knowledge of the UK road network.
  • An effective communicator who can build strong working relationships at all levels.
  • Able to remain calm and make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Committed, motivated, and focused on delivering outstanding operational performance.
  • Comfortable challenging existing processes and identifying improvements.
  • Previous experience in a Transport Operator or Transport Planner role.
  • Experience within container transport operations.
  • Good understanding of transport legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in TOPS.
