We are seeking an organised and commercially minded Assistant Finance Manager to join our Operational Finance team in Chepstow. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting, analysing operational performance, and providing valuable insights that support business decision-making across our Transport and Warehouse operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional who enjoys working with data, collaborating with stakeholders, and driving continuous improvement in reporting and financial processes. Key Responsibilities

  • Support the production of weekly and monthly financial reporting, including P&L reporting for operational areas.
  • Maintain cost provisions and accruals, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial controls.
  • Reconcile cost and revenue accounts and investigate any variances or discrepancies.
  • Analyse operational and financial performance, monitoring key performance indicators and identifying trends.
  • Prepare and present financial information in a clear and meaningful format for stakeholders.
  • Raise purchase orders and support ad-hoc sales ledger invoicing activities.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of management accounts and variance analysis.
  • Support the development and implementation of standardised reporting and financial processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including enhanced reporting tools and process efficiencies.
  • Provide financial support for projects and new operational contract implementations.
  • Build strong working relationships with finance colleagues and operational stakeholders across the business.

What We're Looking For

  • 3 years previous experience in a finance, management accounts, or assistant finance manager role.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, journals, accruals, prepayments, and account reconciliations.
  • Experience producing financial reports and analysing P&L performance.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills with the ability to interpret large data sets and identify variances.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data manipulation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality work.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance audiences.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving with a focus on identifying and implementing improvements.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong team-working and relationship-building skills.
  • A positive, continuous improvement mindset with a desire to learn and develop.

Desirable

  • Experience within logistics, transport, warehousing, or operational finance environments.
  • Part-qualified or studying towards a recognised accounting qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
