Job Title: Seasonal Event Supervisor

Reporting to: Events Manager and Head of Commercial Events

Contract: Zero hours (mostly evening and weekend work)

Hourly pay:£17.00 – £20.00 per hour(dependent on experience)

The Garden Museum Background

The Garden Museum is the only museum in Britain dedicated to the design, history and art of gardens and in June 2018 it re‑opened after an £8 million restoration, refurbishment and extension, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Venue hire and corporate support is pivotal to this vision, and we are looking for a seasonal Event Manager to support our events calendar. The Garden Museum hosts a wide range of exciting events across the year working with established fashion brands, PR companies and private clients including wedding receptions. We are looking for an events manager to support the delivery of our events. Events range from evenings to weekends, with a typical shift being between 7 – 12 hours.

What are we looking for?

  • A professional with 5+ years of experience in venue or events management, ideally within a cultural or heritage setting.
  • Confident and professional demeanour, with the ability to represent the Museum with polish and integrity.
  • Comfortable with securing the building, including setting alarms and ensuring the museum is safely locked at the end of the day.
  • Proven experience in responding to fire alarms, managing evacuations, and operating fire alarm control panels.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organisational skills, with a proactive approach to event preparation and execution.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising small teams during live events, ensuring smooth operations and high standards.
  • Physically capable of meeting the demands of the role, including manual handling tasks such as moving museum equipment and furniture.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond to unexpected situations with confidence and clarity.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and late‑night events as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full responsibility for managing the event after the Events Manager has departed, ensuring smooth execution and resolution of any issues that arise.
  • Oversee the setup and de‑rig of events, ensuring that all aspects are completed efficiently and on time, while maintaining the highest standards of quality. – protecting the museum and collection it holds.
  • Work collaboratively with suppliers during the setup, event execution and de‑rig stages, ensuring effective communication and timely delivery of services.
  • Ensure that health and safety standards are adhered to throughout the event, conducting regular checks and addressing any concerns promptly.
  • Follow the event brief accurately, ensuring all event objectives and requirements are met according to the client’s specifications.
  • Assist in delivering the event briefing to relevant team members and stakeholders, providing clear instructions and expectations for event day operations.
  • Liaise with security teams to ensure the safety and security of guests, staff and the museum collection, coordinating any necessary protocols or measures.
  • Maintain client expectations throughout the event, providing excellent customer service and addressing any concerns or requests in a professional and timely manner.
