Are you a student that is 17 or over, has a Learning Disability and would love to use your lived experiences to train and gain meaningful employment. At UTS we would love you to join our Co Training team of Expert with Lived Experience delivering the mandatory Oliver McGowan Training to our customers in Health and Social Care companies in the UK.

A little bit about the Oliver McGowan Campaign: The Oliver McGowan Campaign was created in memory of Oliver McGowan, a young autistic man with a learning disability who tragically died in 2016 after being given medication against his and his family’s wishes. The campaign calls for better training for healthcare professionals to improve understanding of autism and learning disabilities, ensuring patients are listened to, respected, and treated safely.

As a Co Trainer, you will always work alongside a highly experienced Facilitating Trainer and share your personal experiences to help others understand what good care and communication look like. You will co-deliver sessions with another trainer (who may have professional or lived experience of autism and learning disabilities), working together to help health and social care staff build confidence, empathy, and inclusive practice.

You can choose whether you want to work from home delivering only Tier 1 Training Online, or there is also the option to do Tier 2 training that would mean you deliver training to groups of people face to face. You can work as little as 1 hr to over 20 hours a week based on your availability and the demand from our customers. Throughout your employment journey with UTS you will be fully supported and work with our employability team to ensure reasonable adjustments are met and you are comfortable with the hours and locations you may be required to work in.

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-deliver Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Tier 1 ONLY (online from home) OR Tier 1 and Tier 2 (in person on location) to staff across health and social care settings.
  • Share your lived experience in a safe, structured, and positive way to support learning and reflection.
  • Work collaboratively with your co-trainer and UTS colleagues to ensure high-quality delivery.
  • Help to develop and adapt training materials to make them engaging and accessible.
  • Represent the voice of people with learning disabilities as a professional ambassador for inclusion.

About You

  • Has a learning disability and experience they feel comfortable sharing.
  • Is passionate about improving understanding and respect for people with learning disabilities.
  • Feels confident (or is keen to develop confidence) in speaking to groups.
  • Enjoy working as part of a supportive team.
  • Is open to learning and professional development.
  • Can travel (within a reasonable distance) to attend in person training.

You do not need to have previous experience as a trainer — full training, mentoring, and co-delivery support will be provided. Flexible hours. Fully supported. Disability Confident Employment. Continuous personal development programmes (after all we are a training company).
