Purpose of Role
The Service Technician is responsible for performing hands-on service, repair, testing, inspection and maintenance of subsea, mechanical and lifting equipment used within Subsea Innovation (SSI). The role supports day-to-day workshop and field activities, ensuring equipment is serviced safely, accurately recorded, compliant with SSI work standards, and ready for operational use. The position follows established procedures with limited discretion and contributes to maintaining a safe, well-organised and efficient workshop environment.

Degree of Discretion/Scope of Responsibility
Follows defined instructions, procedures and work standards. Some independence in executing routine service tasks once trained. Escalates faults, non-conformances and complex issues to senior technicians or supervisors. Responsible for the accuracy of service records, tool & equipment checks, and following safe working practices. No responsibility for staff, budgets or operational planning.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Workshop Service & Repair Activities
- Perform routine maintenance, inspection, service and repair of mechanical, subsea and lifting equipment.
- Conduct equipment testing and functional checks in accordance with SSI procedures.
- Assist with demobilisation, inspection and storage of returned assets.
- Clean, prepare and re-assemble equipment to required service standards.
- Support equipment troubleshooting and identify defects for escalation.
- Asset Control & Documentation
- Accurately update asset status in D365 or relevant ERP systems.
- Complete service records, test sheets, inspection forms and job cards.
- Ensure equipment certifications and user documentation accompany serviced equipment.
- Workshop Operations
- Follow workshop processes for safe handling, storage and movement of equipment.
- Assist with maintaining workshop cleanliness, organisation and 5S housekeeping.
- Conduct basic tool checks and report defects.
- Support stock checks and consumable replenishment.
- Customer & Operational Support
- Assist senior technicians with mobilisation preparations and packing of equipment.
- Interact professionally with colleagues and occasionally with clients during equipment handovers.
- Support site work (onshore/offshore) under supervision where required.
- Cross Functional Support
- Collaborate with Engineering, Projects, Production and QA/QC on equipment-related queries.
- Escalate operational issues or service delays to the Service Supervisor.
- QHSE Responsibilities
- Comply with all Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures.
- Use PPE correctly and maintain safe working conditions.
- Exercise Stop Work Authority if unsafe conditions arise.
- Report hazards, non-conformances and incidents promptly.
Educational Requirements
Technical Certificate / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering or similar (RQF 3–4). Additional training in workshop safety, mechanical fitting, lifting operations or equipment inspection advantageous.
Experience Requirements
1–2 years’ experience in service, repairs, maintenance or workshop technician roles. Experience with subsea, marine, mechanical or lifting equipment is advantageous but not essential. Familiarity with working in workshop environments involving mechanical components and tooling.
Technical Skills
- Basic mechanical skills (strip, inspect, assemble, test equipment).
- Ability to use tools, lifting equipment and workshop machinery safely.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (D365 preferred) for asset updates.
- Competent in reading simple engineering drawings and work instructions.
- Basic computer literacy (MS Office).
