About Us: Ysgol y Rhos is a specialist independent school for pupils aged 8-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and additional learning needs. We provide a fresh start every day through a relationship-based, trauma-informed approach, integrating education, care, and therapy. Small class sizes, personalised support, and a focus on wellbeing and engagement create an environment where pupils can thrive.
The Role: We are looking for a resilient, proactive, and hands-on Learning & Outdoor Support Mentor to support pupils both in the classroom and in practical, outdoor learning environments. This is an active, dynamic role for someone who enjoys variety, working directly with young people, and helping them develop confidence, independence, and resilience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Classroom & Learning Support: Support teachers in delivering engaging, practical, and differentiated lessons. Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group support in literacy, numeracy, emotional regulation, and personalised learning plans. Encourage independence, problem-solving, and resilience in learning.
- Behaviour & Pastoral Support: Implement behaviour strategies consistently and calmly. Support pupils to manage emotions, de-escalate conflict, and reflect on choices. Build positive, trusting relationships and act as a consistent role model.
- Outdoor Education & Enrichment: Lead and support pupils during outdoor education, practical projects, and educational visits. Deliver hands-on learning experiences that develop teamwork, confidence, and resilience. Ensure all activities are carried out safely in line with risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
- Teamwork & Professional Responsibilities: Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and care staff as part of a multidisciplinary team. Monitor, record, and report pupil progress and behaviour. Participate in training, CPD, and staff meetings. Support breaktimes, lunchtimes, and transitions as needed.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is resilient, proactive, and enjoys practical, hands-on work.
- Thrives in outdoor and classroom learning environments.
- Can build strong relationships with pupils while maintaining clear boundaries.
- Works well independently and as part of a team.
Why Join Us: Be part of a supportive, dynamic school where you can make a real difference. Work in a varied role combining classroom learning, outdoor activities, and enrichment. Opportunities for professional development and CPD.
