At Unique Care Group (UCG), we do more than provide care — we build trust, confidence, and brighter days for children with learning disabilities. Every child we support is unique, and so is the care we give. Are you, or could you be a caring, patient, and supportive Residential Support Worker, ready to help change children’s lives for the better? If so, you’ll be providing the very best care for our young people with learning disabilities, who are verbal/non-verbal and who have associated medical needs. We will give you full training to be able to do your job and excel as a valued part of our business as well providing a clear and tailored career pathway. We put our children at the centre of every decision, so you’ll share our values of Respect, Dignity, Equality, Compassion and Commitment. If you are passionate about delivering outstanding outcomes for young people with learning disabilities, and want to have a lasting impact, this role offers the opportunity to truly shine.

What You’ll do:

  • Remain awake for the entirety of the waking night shift; ensure you achieve sufficient sleep outside of your working hours, so you are fit and safe for waking night duty.
  • Build trusting, professional relationships with children that are underpinned by clear boundaries and a strong safeguarding ethos.
  • Help young people settle down for sleep, supporting them in accordance with their care plan and risk assessments.
  • Establish positive, appropriate relationships with young people, so they feel safe, secure and free from harm; always show them unconditional positive regard and nurture.
  • Administer medications (all training will be provided).
  • In some instances, provide personal care – this doesn’t apply to all roles.
  • Empower young people and facilitate their active involvement in the decision-making process regarding their lives and future.
  • Attend to practical matters in relation to childcare (for example food preparation, cleaning up, keeping the home secure during the nighttime shift).
  • Be vigilant to the security of the premises at night; ensure all doors and windows are locked.
  • Provide support on a 1:1 basis as appropriate to enable young people to address past and present difficulties.
  • Attend and contribute to regular supervision sessions with your manager, according to company policy; positively receiving feedback to grow in your role.

What you’ll bring:

We’re looking for an individual who is nurturing and resilient with unwavering commitment to quality and the best possible outcomes for our children.

What You’ll need:

  • Ideally a level 3 or 4 diploma in Residential Care but it isn’t essential as we will fully fund this qualification – it is a requirement to be attained within 2 years.
  • A desire to help others and a genuine reason why you think you can provide outstanding care and support.
  • If you have experience of supporting young people with learning disabilities that would be great – but this may be a whole new career for you so don’t worry if you haven’t.
  • Philosophy that only the best is good enough when it comes to the children in our care.
  • Perhaps you’ll have experience in a children’s educational setting, have family members with needs, a background helping and supporting others or a deep sense of wanting to.
  • A driving license is heavily preferred, but if you don’t have one, don’t let that put you off from applying. The role is also subject to an enhanced DBS check.
