Overview
As Senior Solution Architect, you will own the end-to-end architecture of Dynamics 365 Business Central for Uniphar's Medtech division, guiding design from target state to delivered solutions. You balance enterprise direction with hands-on AL development, ensuring resiliency, performance, and secure integration in a regulated medical-device context. You will challenge partner designs, lead a high-performing team, and drive the platform to scale across geographies and acquisitions. This role operates within an Agile, product-based delivery model as part of our transformation program.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end architecture of Dynamics 365 Business Central for the Medtech division, from target state to delivered design
- Define and maintain target architecture, design principles, and standards for configuration, extension, and integration
- Act as design authority, reviewing and approving solution designs to ensure architectural integrity
- Own technical debt agenda, shift from customization-heavy patterns to upgrade-safe designs
- Balance business need, cost, time-to-value and long-term maintainability in architectural decisions
- Engage across enterprise levels, from high-level direction to detailed postings, permissions, or small changes
- Review and challenge partner designs to ensure quality, cost, effort estimates, and fit for purpose
- Ensure partner-delivered work meets architecture, security, ALM, and coding standards
- Identify business opportunities by engaging with finance, supply chain, warehouse, and commercial teams
- Translate opportunities into practical proposals with clear value, effort, and risk
- Own core ERP process architecture: finance, purchasing, inventory, warehouse, distribution, order-to-cash
- Support medical device distribution requirements: lot/serial traceability, expiry control, UDI, consignment models
- Standardise processes across entities/geographies to minimise divergence
- Design for master data integrity and governance across the estate
- Design for resiliency, scalability, performance, availability, and disaster recovery
- Embed security, data protection, governance by design; define access controls and SD governance
- Assess and improve existing solution for performance and reliability
- Manage Microsoft's continuous release cycle to stay upgrade-ready
- Design robust, secure integrations with Azure, ERP ecosystem, EDI, SAP, and third-party systems
- Select integration patterns and technologies (Azure IA, Logic Apps, APIs, Dataverse) per scenario
- Ensure integrations are observable, resilient, and well-documented with contracts and error handling
- Define data flows to the group data platform for reporting and analytics
- Ensure architecture supports regulatory obligations (GxP) and auditability for finance/controls
- Collaborate with stakeholders across finance, supply chain, quality, and technology to align architecture with strategic outcomes
- Communicate trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
- Evangelise Business Central and Power Platform capabilities
Key requirements
- Deep, enterprise-scale experience architecting Dynamics 365 Business Central (or Dynamics NAV with upgrade path)
- Strong grounding in core ERP processes: finance, purchasing, inventory, warehouse management, distribution, order-to-cash
- Hands-on AL extension development (extensions, events/interfaces, custom APIs)
- Judgement on when to configure vs extend vs buy; maintain upgrade-safe core
- Strong knowledge of Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse) and low-code vs coded solutions
- Proven ability to design for resiliency, scalability, performance, and disaster recovery
- Strong integration architecture experience across Azure (Logic Apps, Azure Integration Services, APIs); EDI/3PL/SAP integration a plus
- Experience with ALM/CI-CD and source control for BC (Azure DevOps, Git); no manual deployments
- Security best practices for cloud/ERP: access controls, segregation of duties, governance
- Experience in Agile, product-based delivery; supporting a Product Owner and roadmap
- Mentoring and leading developers; driving technical quality for a high-performing team
- Ability to analyse complex issues and provide effective, implementable solutions
- Experience in regulated/GxP environments, ideally medical device or pharmaceutical distribution, incl. validation and change control
