The Business Development Director is an individual contributor role that opens new business and drives revenue for our services. You will be responsible for identifying products and solutions that can be sold into the markets we serve. To execute this strategy, you will also be responsible for sourcing, building, and expanding Uniphar’s relationships with Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Companies. You will play a key role in executing key elements of the go-to-market strategy for the division.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Growth & Market Development
    • Develop and execute the Pharma Services business development strategy to expand its presence.
    • Identify new service areas, market segments, and client opportunities aligned with the company’s capabilities.
    • Conduct competitive and market analysis to inform commercial strategy and positioning.
    • Collaborate with executive leadership to shape service offerings based on market demand and emerging trends.
  • Manufacturer & Customer Relationship Management
    • Build and manage relationships with key decision-makers across the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
    • Drive new relationships and lead generation through to contract closure.
    • Lead high-value negotiations, proposals, and presentations to secure new business.
    • Maintain ongoing relationships with manufacturers and customers to identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities.
  • Strategic Partnerships & Alliances
    • Identify and establish collaborations with industry partners, distributors, research institutions, or contract organisations that enhance the company’s service offering and market access.
    • Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to enhance visibility and reputation.
  • Financial & Operational Oversight
    • Work with the respective P&L owners to develop annual new business sales forecasts and budgets in alignment with company objectives.
    • Provide accurate and timely reporting on business development activities, pipeline status, and revenue projections.
    • Ensure all client agreements meet internal financial and legal compliance standards.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Proven track record of more than 5 years of sales within the sector, including working for specialist wholesalers.
  • Background in the pharmaceutical industry or expanded access sector desirable.
  • 5+ years' experience in developing sales presentations and presenting to C-Suite professionals and at all levels within an organisation.
  • A successful track record in selling complex services and solutions.
  • Exhibits a growth mindset and the ability to scale a nascent business.
  • You think and act like an entrepreneur and like to build things.
  • You are both highly tactical and a strategic thinker.
  • Experience in business process development, working with CRM, documenting sales activity and an introspective analytic mindset for self-improvement.
  • Displays intellect, grit, executive presence, and commercial acumen.
  • Enjoy team-selling and a culture of continuous learning.
  • Quickly understands and articulates customer value propositions.
  • Experience in influencing executive-level decisions.
  • Open to travel for key business events.

As we are a global team, there is flexibility to be based in one of Uniphar’s offices or work from home. There may be a need for face to face meetings in other locations, as needed. There may also some flexibility required in order to interact with colleagues or clients in their time zones (i.e. it’s not a ‘9 to 5’ type of job).
