Your responsibilities:

  • The Apprenticeship Programme: We take your training and development very seriously and invest heavily to provide you with all the tools you will need to be successful, as you progress through your career in the energy industry. The apprenticeship scheme offers hands-on experience and comprehensive training, allowing you to earn while you learn. Working alongside skilled professionals, you will gain insights into station operations, maintenance, and engineering, with opportunities to specialise in areas such as electrical, mechanical, or control & instrumentation engineering.
  • You will be following the Welsh Engineering Craft and Technician Level 3 apprenticeship standard with our training partner Coleg Cambria at the Deeside campus. At the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll have some impressive qualifications under your belt, including: Level 2 NVQ in engineering, BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering and an NVQ Level 3 in an engineering discipline. Over and above the standard Uniper will offer the successful candidate a Level 4 HNC qualification in their engineering discipline.
  • Your employment will be governed by a fixed term contract with a duration of four years. You may have the opportunity to complete your apprenticeship prior to the conclusion of this term. This will be subject to your qualifications at the commencement of employment.
  • This will enable you to gain rounded experience that could open career opportunities including support for further education, even a degree!

As a high-efficiency gas-fired facility, it delivers flexible electricity generation to help balance the electrical grid from the variability of renewable sources. Thanks to its strategic location and substantial capacity, the station makes a vital contribution to the region’s energy security. Furthermore, with ongoing decarbonisation initiatives, Connah’s Quay Power Station is committed to supporting the UK’s transition towards net-zero emissions, all while maintaining its dedication to safety, and sustainability.

Your profile:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths, English, a Science subject and Technology (or equivalent) – Level 5 or above
  • PEO qualification advantageous but not essential
  • Keen interest in engineering, technology, or the energy sector
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • £16,750 starting salary with yearly increase subject to performance (Final year £28,924)
