- A day shift (8am-4pm) initial working pattern, moving to a fortnightly pattern which attracts an extra 20% pay (week 1: 6am-2pm / week 2: 2pm-10pm).
What we need from you:
- A "can-do" attitude and a willingness to work hard.
- Comfort working in a manufacturing setting (this includes wearing full-face mask PPE).
- A love for high-end automotive excellence.
- After training, a willingness to work a fortnightly pattern as above which attracts 20% extra pay as shift premium.
Job Purpose:
To train in all aspects of the preparation and finishing of polymer, metal and composite components which require spray painting, to a high quality standard. This role feeds into becoming a trained Paint line technician and the career opportunity to become a Senior Paint Line Technician, and potentially Paint Line painter.
To train in the following disciplines, with the guidance and supervision of a dedicated trainer:
- To be able to prepare components to the required standard, within an expected time (where possible) and below a required scrap target, ready for spray painting using hand and pneumatic tools and techniques to achieve results.
- To be able to polish painted components to a required standard, removing paint defects and achieving the required surface finish, within an expected time (where possible), and below a scrap and rework target, using hand and pneumatic tools and techniques to achieve results.
- To be able to rework defective parts to help reduce department scrap levels and meet customer schedules.
- To understand departmental KPIs and how you can support your team in resolving issues, when they cannot be met.
- To understand what cleaning and maintenance activities are required to ensure the prep and polish facility operates efficiently and safely.
- To understand how to complete administrative tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
- To understand how your equipment is maintained and kept in a safe and operational condition.
Principle Responsibilities:
- To follow the instructions of the trainers and team leaders.
- To ensure your work area is kept in a tidy condition and you follow and participate in maintaining the 5S principles and standards.
- All employees have a duty of care to follow / adhere to all Health, Safety, Environmental & Wellbeing (HSEW) procedures, and to challenge unsafe acts & behaviours.
- Report all incidents, hazards, near misses to minimise / eliminate the risk of potential further incidents occurring.
Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
- No previous experience is required, but a passion for quality and perfecting a skilled trade is essential.
- Experience working in a fast paced manufacturing environment is desirable.
- Strong attention to detail, a ‘keen’ eye for spotting surface defects, as well as good hand-eye coordination and a hands-on approach to work.
- Patience and care to produce parts to the desired high quality standards.
- A genuine desire to learn a skilled trade, which will require skills to be learned and relearned as your skills develop into a long-term career.
- Punctuality and reliability to be able to support a manufacturing team is a non-negotiable requirement.
- Knowledge of spray painting processes is an advantage but not essential.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and speak up if you are in doubt.
- Flexibility in being able to adapt to the changing demands and different parts.
- Resilience and persistence to stick with a challenge.
- Strong communication skills and confidence to ask questions to fulfil training requirements.
- Self-motivated to keep your area clean, tools in good condition and yourself safe by adhering to PPE requirements at all times.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and interact with people at all levels.
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment, providing input and feedback in a helpful manner.
- To be able to receive feedback in a positive way, so as to learn and adapt to improve your skills and widen your knowledge, and not take it personally.
- To be able to actively listen to instructions and technical information.
