Job Title: BG Procurement Manager – Home Care
Location: Port Sunlight Office or London 100VE
Job Purpose
The Home Care division is circa 23% of Unilever’s turnover, 11 billion Euros with 6 billion Euros spend on Raw & Packaging materials. The ambition is to reach ‘15-35-15’ by 2025; 15 bn€ turnover, 35% gross margin and 15% underlying operating margin. There has never been a more exciting time to join the Procurement Home Care team as we seek to change the landscape of Home Care by delivering this ambition through significant value generation in driving superior innovation led growth and margin delivery via our CLEAN FUTURE agenda.
In this role, the successful candidate will business partner the Fabric Cleaning (Liquids & Capsules) and Fabric Enhancers categories, including Clean Future Strategy, Innovation, Cost savings, and end-to-end value chain initiatives. As Business Group Procurement Home Care , your main purpose is to introduce new technologies via a capable and resilient supply base, with required capacity, in right locations at the agreed price, in-line with Category strategy.
You are the voice of Procurement to Categories, responsible for creating and embedding procurement strategies into Category Program and vice versa. You will be the key Procurement partner for these Categories, R&D and Supply Chain in driving the Procurement initiatives.
Key program activities include driving superior and disruptive innovation led growth through the supplier base, leading the Smart Partnering pillar within the 5S margin delivery program, and leading the procurement inputs for the innovation funnel within the cross-functional category team. Further will this role also take on cross HC initiatives on behalf of the Procurement organization.
Responsibilities
You’re a strategist: You have a clear understanding of the categories’ strategy, wants and needs. You can translate the business and technical roadmap to inform the material and supplier strategy.
You’re a dot connector: You can see the big picture within the end-to-end value chain and drive value creation to the category. You can spot trends and the impacts of upfront decisions on the back end of the supply chain. You will also detect synergies amongst the different innovation projects to capitalize from a suppler/material point of view.
You’re a negotiator: You will use your strategic influencing skills to drive procurement recommendations within the category based on outside market intelligence. You bring market intelligence and the “outside in” to the category by reporting the macro and micro economic trends, material inflation and currency impacts in key markets, enabling the category to take mitigating actions per procurement recommendations.
You’re a teacher: You will work collaboratively with your peers by sharing and taking best practice for the benefit of your categories and the overall Procurement community. You will ensure your cross functional partners are clear on the Procurement ways of working.
You’re a pioneer: You will engage in the development of future products and hence future materials & suppliers. Your role is crucial to scan the market together with the portfolio, S&I and R&D to detect the best opportunities and secure competitive, superior and technically feasible materials in these white spaces.
You’re a storyteller: You will master the skill of communication driven by the understanding that stories don’t ‘cloak’ reality but create it. In a Category facing such paramount transformations towards sustainable living while keeping it relevant, superior and affordable, you will leverage on powerful stories; the best invention ever created for delivering mental models, drive behavior and change.
… above all you’re a businessperson: you will be obsessed with P&L. You’ll own ~40% of it and your contribution to drive the best material + pack strategy will be responsible of securing a profitable long-lasting business capable of delivering our sustainable commitments.
All About You
- University degree in business, supply chain, engineering or the sciences
- Proven track record in effective stakeholder management
- Experience in supply chain / R&D / Procurement with end-to-end supply chain and innovation background highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills and team working ability at all levels
- Excellent analytic skills and data management
- Experience with SAP & PowerBi (highly desirable)
- Creative solutions-oriented mindset to meet the competitive and business challenges of the category
- Working effectively in virtual and diverse teams
- Comfortable working cross functionally and across many cultures
