Job Title: Global Sustainability Assistant Manager – Plastics – X2
Location: 100VE
MAIN PURPOSE
These roles sit in the Plastic team within the Global Sustainability Function, supporting Unilever’s goals, and advocacy & policy objectives related to tackling plastic pollution. There are several key deliverables across the two roles, including the proactive management of issues related to plastics and development of partnerships and collaborations to support the company’s efforts reduce virgin plastic use.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Proactively manage external issues linked to plastics by developing effective processes and researching emerging plastic-related trends, regulation, threats and opportunities.
- Establish and manage key internal and external relationships to support delivery of Unilever’s plastic sustainability priorities and development of strategy on new sustainable business models, such as reuse and refill.
- Work as part of a cross-functional team to deliver projects, advocacy and policy efforts to overcome structural barriers to accelerating packaging sustainability, ensuring Unilever is competitively positioned for future packaging transitions within the consumer goods industry.
- Support the internal sustainability governance processes including co-ordination of preparation for leadership and governance meetings and team responses to external reporting processes where required (e.g. annual report).
- Support the production of high-quality policy briefings for senior executives and support key advocacy moments – COP, UNGA, Davos and selected industry conferences and events.
- Other tasks as relevant to the priorities of Unilever’s Plastic team within our Global Sustainability Function, such as managing Plastic team operations and budget.
ALL ABOUT YOU
- Good knowledge of and interest in and understanding of plastics and packaging as it relates to sustainability.
- Previous knowledge of virgin plastic reduction, refill and reuse, recyclability and EPR is particularly valuable, or willingness to learn more about these topics.
- Passion, confidence and initiative. A self-starter who can work independently and part of cross-functional teams in a global matrix organisation.
- Excellent writing skills (experience of writing English language briefing papers for C-level executives particularly valuable).
- Comfortable with complex, detailed and sometimes technical policy documents.
- Calm under pressure, especially when juggling multiple deliverables.
- Good stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
