Unilabs, a leading provider of pharmaceutical and diagnostic services, is seeking a Senior Scientist (Biotransformation) to join our team in Sandwich, UK. This role will play a key part in delivering biotransformation and metabolite characterisation studies that support drug discovery and development for human and animal health. The successful candidate will contribute scientific expertise to complex metabolism studies, generating high-quality analytical data and supporting the development of innovative scientific solutions for the pharmaceutical industry. This position offers the opportunity to work independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary scientific teams, contributing to research innovation and maintaining high regulatory and scientific standards.
Responsibilities
- Deliver biotransformation and metabolite characterisation studies supporting drug discovery and development
- Perform metabolism experiments and troubleshoot analytical challenges
- Generate high-quality scientific data from technically complex experiments
- Prepare scientific reports, data packages, and study documentation
- Ensure all work complies with relevant scientific and regulatory requirements, including GCP where applicable
- Stay up to date with developments in biotransformation science and contribute to implementing new techniques and practices
- Contribute to scientific publications, presentations, and knowledge sharing within the organisation
- Participate in conferences, workshops, and industry events to build networks and represent the organisation
- Support continuous improvement of laboratory systems, scientific processes, and quality standards
- Assist with laboratory operations, including compound and sample handling, laboratory organisation, and instrument maintenance
- Maintain strong communication and collaboration with internal teams and stakeholders
Requirements
- BSc or MSc in Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacy, or a related field (PhD desirable)
- 5-10 years of experience in an analytical laboratory environment
- Proven experience in metabolite characterisation and biotransformation studies
- Strong knowledge of drug discovery processes and pre-clinical testing protocols
- Experience with high-resolution mass spectrometry and associated analytical software
- Strong scientific communication and report-writing skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organisational skills
- Eligible to work in the UK
