Unilabs, a leading provider of pharmaceutical and diagnostic services, is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist to join our team. The successful candidate will receive cross-department training and help in the delivery of studies in support of human or animal health drug discovery and development.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A sound understanding of a fundamental scientific discipline relevant to DMPK activities, such as chemistry, biochemistry or pharmacology;
  • A strong desire to work in a laboratory environment to support the development of novel pharmaceuticals;
  • Enthusiasm for science and contributing towards scientific research;
  • The willingness to learn new scientific skills and to develop their scientific knowledge;
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure and deliver high-quality data to challenging timelines;
  • A meticulous approach to record keeping

Key Responsibilities
Support of Drug-Discovery and Development:

  • Show a basic understanding of relevant principles, concepts and practices related to DMPK science;
  • Interpret and follow detailed protocols/experimental directions to generate expected results with guidance from more senior team members;
  • Show good time-management and daily planning for allocated activities;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of relevant data processing;
  • Specific tasks may include:

  • Preparation of analytical standards and samples for LS-MS analysis;

  • Receipting of analytical standards and samples in an appropriate LIMS system;
  • Sample preparation, including protein precipitation and other extraction techniques;
  • LC-MS bioanalysis, including preparation of calibration curves and method development;
  • In vitro experimentation, including the preparation of biological matrices and metabolising systems;
  • Manual incubations and automation for high-throughput screening;
  • Metabolite characterisation using high resolution MS and enzymology investigations

Scientific Development:

  • To work towards developing a detailed understanding of relevant principles, concepts and practices related to bioanalysis and DMPK science;
  • To keep abreast of new scientific developments related to DMPK science;
  • Undertake appropriate scientist training and attend appropriate scientific conferences

Quality System and Health and Safety:

  • To be cognisant with the Quality System and specific quality requirements from individual Sponsors;
  • Keep careful and timely records of work;
  • To liaise with and assist management in the safe operation of the laboratory;
  • Contribute to general laboratory procedures, including receipting of compounds and samples, laboratory organisation and instrument maintenance

Requirements

  • BSc/MSc in Life Sciences, related field;
  • Previous industrial experience is not essential, such that the role is ideal for a new or recent graduate;
  • Broad understanding of ADMET studies and their significance to drug discovery and drug development programs;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Exceptional communication skills;
  • Able to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams;
  • Fluent in English;
  • Proactive with a positive attitude;
