This role is based in Unilabs UK in Tissue Sciences for the provision of Pathology testing services to Unilabs patients and customers.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform histopathology laboratory activities including dissection (A-C graded specimens), embedding, microtomy, frozen sections, immunohistochemistry and digital pathology.
- Plan, prioritise and deliver scientific workload to ensure efficient and timely diagnostic services.
- Accurately examine, document, photograph and dissect specimens, producing provisional macroscopic reports where appropriate.
- Use Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS) in line with authorised protocols, ensuring data accuracy, integrity and confidentiality.
- Support quality management systems through audits, validation, verification and continuous improvement activities.
- Provide training, supervision and mentoring to Biomedical Scientists, trainees and support staff.
- Assist in service development, implementation of new techniques and adoption of best practice.
- Maintain compliance with health & safety, infection control, clinical governance and regulatory standards.
- Participate in CPD, maintain HCPC registration and contribute to teaching and training programmes.
- Communicate effectively with pathologists, laboratory colleagues and stakeholders to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Education & Registration
- BSc (Hons) IBMS‑accredited degree or equivalent
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
- Specialist portfolio in Histology / FIBMS or equivalent experience
- IBMS membership
- Willingness to undertake MSc (desirable)
Experience
- Proven experience in histopathology laboratory techniques
- Use of Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS)
- Experience with quality management systems, audits and SOPs
- Training, mentoring or supervision of staff
- Knowledge of health & safety and laboratory compliance standards
