OVERVIEW Hurtwood House School is seeking a Higher Education Adviser to join its Careers and Higher Education team in Surrey, England. This role focuses on providing personalised support to Sixth Form students as they prepare for university, apprenticeships, internships, and work experience opportunities. The successful adviser will work closely with the Head of Life Skills to guide students through application processes and help them make informed decisions about their future in higher education. The position is suited to professionals with experience in university admissions, student recruitment, or education guidance within a higher education or Sixth Form setting. The role combines direct student support with administrative coordination and event delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Provide personalised advice and support to students applying to university, apprenticeships, internships, and work experience opportunities
- Support students with UK and overseas university application processes
- Assist students with UCAS and Common Application submissions
- Help students make informed choices about their future education pathways
- Deliver higher education workshops and events
- Coordinate university visits and guest speakers
- Maintain careers and education resources
- Support staff with reference writing
- Manage key application and student-record processes
- Provide support to students during the August results period
Requirements
- Experience working in university admissions or student recruitment in a higher education setting, or experience as a higher education adviser in a Sixth Form
