Role Purpose

As a Lead Engineer, you will operate as the site lead engineer, responsible for the maintenance, service, repair, and replacement of electrical and mechanical systems within a critical healthcare environment. You will ensure all building services operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with statutory and contractual requirements.

Working as part of an on‐site engineering team, the successful lead engineer will provide technical leadership, set engineering standards, and play a key role in maintaining business continuity in a highly critical setting where reliability and professionalism are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the site lead engineer, overseeing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across electrical and mechanical systems
  • Maintain and repair plant and equipment typically found in critical hospital environments, including:
  • Electrical distribution systems
  • HVAC systems (AHUs, FCUs, chillers, boilers)
  • Pumps, motors, and associated mechanical plant
  • Emergency lighting and power systems
  • Provide technical support and guidance to on‐site engineers as a lead engineer
  • Ensure all works are completed in line with health & safety regulations and site procedures
  • Accurately complete maintenance records and documentation
  • Liaise with subcontractors, specialist service providers, and the client as the site lead engineer
  • Support continuous improvement of building services and site reliability
  • Maintain a professional and customer‐focused approach at all times as a lead engineer
  • Skills & Experience Required

    • Recognised electrical or mechanical engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent)
    • Proven experience operating in a senior or lead engineer position within commercial or critical environments
    • Strong technical knowledge across both electrical and mechanical disciplines
    • Excellent fault‐finding, diagnostic, and decision‐making skills expected of a lead engineer
    • Knowledge of statutory compliance, permits, and safe systems of work
    • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
    • Ability to work Monday to Friday during normal working hours
