Experience in Mechanical Supervisor (Essential)

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Supervisor to lead retrofit works across school projects in Birmingham. This is a fantastic opportunity for a hands-on, client-facing professional who thrives on responsibility, autonomy, and delivering high-quality mechanical works in live environments.

Working on education facilities, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and upgrading critical building services systems — primarily within plant rooms and heating systems — ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.

If you’re a seasoned professional with a plumbing, pipefitting, or HVAC background and are ready to take ownership on site, this role offers strong earning potential and long-term stability.

As Mechanical Supervisor, you will:

  • Supervise mechanical retrofit works within school environments
  • Oversee maintenance, plant room upgrades, heating system repairs, PPMs and reactive works
  • Manage and direct a team of engineers on site
  • Act as the main client-facing representative
  • Make independent decisions when required
  • Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to specification
  • Read and interpret designs and instruct the team accordingly
  • Complete general documentation and maintain clear site records
  • Liaise with the visiting Project Manager (weekly or bi-weekly site visits)

This is an out-of-hours role, ensuring works are completed with minimal disruption to school operations.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Highly experienced in mechanical building services
  • From a strong plumbing/pipefitting background (decades of experience welcomed) or from an HVAC background with solid knowledge of plumbing and pipefitting
  • Confident reading drawings and directing engineers
  • IT literate and comfortable with site documentation
  • Friendly, approachable and professional with clients
  • Proactive, solutions-focused and a strong decision maker
  • Comfortable managing engineers and taking ownership on site

You must hold (or be willing to obtain) an Enhanced DBS due to the nature of the projects.
