Unify is proud to exclusively represent a fast growing SaaS business, who is looking to engage the services of an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer on a Contract basis for initially 6 months.

We’re looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to lead the first two phases of a critical infrastructure transformation over a 3–6+ months. This high-impact engagement will modernize our clients platform and expand their global infrastructure. The successful contractor will play a leading role in migrating applications from Heroku to AWS, containerizing services in ECS, and launching a production environment in a second region (US). This is a delivery-focused contract role for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments and can work autonomously to hit the ground running.

PROJECT SCOPE – WHAT YOU’LL DELIVER:

  • Phase 1: UK Core Infrastructure Migration:
  • Containerize key services and migrate workloads from Heroku to AWS ECS
  • Implement VPC networking, IAM, security groups, and other foundational components
  • Build as Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or equivalent tools
  • Phase 2: US Region Expansion:
    • Architect and deploy a second production region in the US
    • Set up global load balancing, failover, and replication strategy
    • Ensure adherence to data residency and latency requirements

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Define and implement secure, scalable infrastructure patterns
    • Build CI/CD pipelines and automation tooling for deployments
    • Establish monitoring, logging, and alerting for distributed environments
    • Create documentation and optionally provide handover training for internal teams
    • Recommend optimizations for cost and performance

    YOU WILL BRING:

    • Independent and proactive — able to take ownership of projects with minimal oversight
    • Outcome-oriented — focused on hitting clear milestones within the engagement window
    • Highly collaborative — comfortable partnering with dev teams and stakeholders remotely
    • Security-minded and detail-oriented.

    YOU SHOULD BE EXCITED BY:

    • Designing and delivering global, scalable infrastructure
    • Working with fast-moving teams on ambitious modernisation efforts
    • Introducing DevOps best practices and setting strong foundations
    • Delivering real impact within a defined contract period

    CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS:

    Must-Have Experience:

    • Proven track record leading high-impact infrastructure migrations
    • Deep hands-on expertise in AWS (ECS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, Route 53, etc.)
    • Experience migrating from Heroku to AWS or other PaaS-to-cloud transformations
    • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform preferred)
    • Container orchestration (ECS, Fargate, or EKS)
    • CI/CD tooling (e.g. GitHub Actions, CircleCI, etc.)
    • Monitoring, observability, and cost optimisation techniques
    • Familiarity with security controls and compliance frameworks

    Nice-to-Have Experience:

    • Global infrastructure projects and multi-region application design
    • CDN and edge delivery experience (e.g. CloudFront, Akamai)
    • E-commerce or high-availability platform exposure
    • Legacy system refactoring experience
    • Serverless architecture exposure (Lambda, API Gateway)
