A welcoming school in WD6 is seeking a reliable and proactive School Caretaker / Maintenance Assistant to join their site team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous school caretaking or maintenance experience who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-presented learning environment.
Working closely with the Site Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the school premises, ensuring the site remains safe, secure, and fully operational for pupils, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:- Carry out daily opening and closing of the school site where required
- Complete routine maintenance, repairs, and basic DIY tasks
- Undertake regular health and safety checks across the premises
- Ensure classrooms, corridors, playgrounds, and outdoor areas are safe and well-maintained
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff
- Set up rooms and equipment for school events and activities
- Monitor site security and report any faults or hazards
- Support contractors on site and maintain compliance records
- Assist with general cleaning duties when required
- Maintain high standards of health and safety across the school
- Previous experience working as a School Caretaker or School Maintenance Assistant
- Good practical DIY and maintenance skills
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
- Reliable, organised, and proactive approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Right to Work in the UK
- Experience working within a primary, secondary, or SEN school
- Knowledge of COSHH and premises compliance
- Basic plumbing, decorating, or electrical maintenance experience
- First Aid qualification
