A specialist SEN school in Aylesbury is seeking a dedicated and resilient KS2 SEN Teacher to join their primary team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with pupils in Key Stage 2 who have Autism (ASC) and complex communication needs within a highly structured and supportive environment. The pupils are predominantly non-verbal and present with a high degree of challenging behaviour, requiring a calm, consistent, and proactive approach. Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with Autism and complex needs
- Create a structured, predictable, and nurturing classroom environment
- Support pupils' communication, emotional regulation, and social development
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet EHCP outcomes and individual learning targets
- Use visual supports, sensory strategies, and communication systems to maximise engagement
- Implement positive behaviour support plans and de-escalation strategies
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and wider SEN professionals
- Monitor, assess, and report on pupil progress
- Contribute to annual reviews, EHCP meetings, and multidisciplinary planning
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience teaching children within a primary or SEN setting
- Strong behaviour management skills and confidence supporting pupils with challenging behaviour
- Ability to adapt learning to meet complex communication and learning needs
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Patient, resilient, and consistent approach
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable:
- Experience working with Autism (ASC) and non-verbal pupils
- Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC, TEACCH, or sensory-based learning approaches
- Experience implementing positive behaviour support strategies
- Experience within a specialist Autism or SEN school setting
