We’re seeking a motivated individual to join our growing Import Operations Team in our Newcastle office. The primary focus of the role is managing global import shipments across ocean (LCL/FCL), air, road and rail, ensuring accurate documentation, compliance and excellent customer service throughout.
The role involves:
- Managing global import shipments from start to finish
- Preparing quotations and booking import movements worldwide
- Monitoring market trends and pricing to maintain competitiveness
- Liaising with carriers, shipping lines and suppliers to secure best rates
- Preparing accurate shipping, customs and financial documentation
- Sending booking instructions to carriers and agents
- Handling pre‑alerts, invoices, order traces and customs entries
- Ensuring cargo is released only against correct documentation and cleared funds
- Tracking shipments through to delivery and maintaining service standards
- Keeping customers, agents and suppliers informed throughout
- Building strong relationships with suppliers, overseas agents and internal teams
- Supporting general office duties when required
The role requires:
- Proven experience in import ocean freight operations and quoting
- Knowledge of air freight and customs systems (training provided where required)
- Strong documentation, compliance and administrative skills
- Excellent organisation, communication and customer service abilities
- Confidence working independently and prioritising workload under pressure
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Commercial awareness and confident negotiation skills
- A flexible, positive and proactive approach
