*this role is open to remote working within the UK. Successful candidates will be required to travel to their closest UNiDAYS campus (London or Nottingham) on occasion.

The role in a nutshell

The Digital Design Developer will bring our digital communications to life. This role combines technical proficiency in HTML/CSS with a strong eye for design, user experience, and performance. Reporting to the Creative Lead, the Digital Design Developer will work closely with Designers, Copywriters, Marketers, and CRM Strategists to build engaging, responsive, and on-brand email campaigns, while contributing to the evolution of our email design system and best practices.

In addition to email development, this role supports in-app messaging, web layers, and other digital touchpoints via Bloomreach and Payload, ensuring cohesive and effective member journeys across channels. This role also supports our partner and member campaign roadmap across multiple on-network and off-network channels.

Day to day responsibilities

  • Develop responsive HTML emails and other on-network assets (e.g. in-app messages, web layers, newsletters) from Figma files, ensuring optimisation for dark mode, mobile responsiveness, accessibility, and cross-client rendering
  • Code, test, and troubleshoot campaigns to ensure performance, accessibility, and deliverability
  • Build, QA, and manage email campaigns within Bloomreach
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure accurate segmentation, personalisation, and campaign targeting
  • Generate high-quality creative ideas for campaigns and support concept development
  • Contribute to the ideation, design, and rollout of campaign assets
  • Apply accessibility principles and semantic HTML to support inclusive design
  • Design and build modular, updateable templates within Bloomreach and Payload, with consideration for ongoing campaign flexibility
  • Implement, test, and iterate on A/B variants of emails and in-app experiences to drive engagement
  • Collaborate with CRM and marketing automation teams to ensure accurate tagging, recommendation logic, and tracking for campaign components
  • Monitor campaign performance data and insights, and contribute to continuous improvement strategies
  • Maintain organised file structures and version control across shared platforms

What we need from you

  • Experience designing digital platforms such as web, app, email, or digital campaigns
  • Can demonstrate an ability to design and hand-code responsive HTML emails
  • Experience using ESPs (e.g. Bloomreach, Adestra) to build and test campaigns
  • Familiar with A/B testing, segmentation, and personalisation workflows
  • Experience coding for dark mode compatibility and mobile-first layouts
  • Built or modified Bloomreach components, including email templates, web layers, and in-app messages
  • Collaborated with CRM or Engineering teams to set up personalised journeys using real-time product feeds and recommendations
  • Experience designing for and implementing recommendation modules, trending product features, and personalised content via Payload or Bloomreach integrations
  • Worked with Designers, Marketers, and Developers to launch campaigns
  • Proficient understanding of data integrations, web layers, and dynamic content
  • Comfortable building or modifying modular, responsive templates and testing across devices and clients
  • Familiarity with QA and rendering tools such as Litmus or Email on Acid
  • Understanding of segmentation, personalisation, and lifecycle-triggered campaigns

Technical Qualifications:

Proficient in Adobe CC (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects)

Strong working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and email coding best practices

Proficient in Figma

Proficient in Google Workspace

Understanding of marketing automation concepts and tools, especially within Bloomreach (campaign journeys, web layers, in-app, and recommendation logic)

Familiarity with CMS or headless CMS integration (e.g. Payload)

Familiar with email building platforms (e.g. Bloomreach, Adestra, Iterable)

Experience with templating languages like Jinja for dynamic content

Comfortable collaborating with developers on API or CMS content feeds and dynamic logic
