The ideal candidate for this position will have extensive experience working as a support worker and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by children and young people. They will be committed to empowering young people and capable of building meaningful relationships with them. Additionally, they will work collaboratively with a team of professionals to create bespoke support plans tailored to each child's or young person's needs.

What will I do as a Senior Support Worker?

  • Work under the direction of the Deputy and Registered Manager to actively contribute to the provision of quality care, promoting the health, welfare, education, and development of young people, and ensuring the home meets all regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Take on-call duties outside of working hours to support the home in line with children’s home regulations and company procedures.
  • Participate in the assessment process for potential new admissions to the home.
  • Provide supervision for designated support workers and night waking support workers.
  • Assist in recruitment, interviewing, and induction of staff alongside the Deputy and Homes Manager.
  • Support the Deputy and Registered Manager in preparing a fair staff rota that covers contractual and care needs of each young person.
  • Embrace the home's ethos in line with Ofsted standards and guidelines, and the Home’s Statement of Purpose.
  • Contribute to creating a nurturing, homely, safe, accepting, and caring environment where children and young people can learn social skills, develop self-esteem, and build confidence.
  • Work proactively within daily routines, including parenting responsibilities, household chores, cooking, shopping, attending appointments, planning activities, and supporting education and life skills development.
  • Support participation in activities, holidays, and outings with young people.
  • Collaborate with parents, social workers, and other professionals to effectively fulfill parenting responsibilities and facilitate contact with families where appropriate.
  • Use effective care practices, de-escalation, and recognized techniques to manage challenging behaviours, following company policies and ensuring proper documentation.
  • Follow all relevant legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures, staying updated on changes.

Candidate should have or be willing to work towards the Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) or an equivalent qualification considered suitable by the registered person.
